Q: I was looking at your courses for nursing informatics. Since I am an LPN and the clinical IS coordinator at my facility I am looking for something to enhance my present position. I was wondering if you have to be an RN to take these courses?

The courses in the NI Learning Center are definitely created with Registered Nurses in mind, but they are valuable and suitable for nurses of all levels from LPN to nursing students to MSN prepared nurses. The beauty of these courses is that much of the content and all of the assignments are designed to elicit complete student input and focus, thus are customizable to your particular level of expertise, learning needs, and future goals.

Q. I have been asked to review the possibility of implementing the use of computer documentation. I would like to learn more about the use of computers in nursing. I noticed that Module 1 began in February of 05. Can the courses you offer be started at anytime? Thank you for your assistance and any information you can provide.

Yes, most definitely. The courses are intended to be combined with nurses' busy worklives, family responsibilities and other obligations. They have been written in the same format as an university semester or term based program, and consist of 13 individual modules.

My on-line students progress through these courses at their own pace, with a focus on their own learning goals. For instance, your particular focus would likely include practice computer documentation. As well, the courses can also be streamlined to meet the needs of various health regions or informatics group for practicing RN professional development.
